But What About Free Will?

Does predestined, universal salvation violate people's free will?  No. Here's why. The "universalism violates free will" argument is based on a flawed understanding of freedom. To live in freedom is to live in truth and love. No person of sound mind would reject these things. Rejection of God is caused by our sin-distorted world; it is not a free choice. You are most free when you fulfill the purpose for which you were created, and when you live within the boundaries set by your creator. When it comes to salvation, your freedom is not being violated any more than it was when God chose your other immutable traits. Did God violate your freedom when they made you male or female, black or white or brown? Was your freedom violated when God gave you certain abilities and personality traits? No, that's ridiculous. You have plenty of freedom within those constraints. So why is it wrong for God to preordain your salvation as well?

why Jesus? only a profoundly gifted Jesus could set things right. only a Jesus with asynchronous development would be impulsive enough to run away from his family, yet clever enough to debate theology with the experts. only a Jesus with relentless curiosity would ask all the questions and question all the answers. only a Jesus with an unquenchable thirst for justice would be angry enough to flip the table of tradition. only a Jesus with gifted intensity would be executed because he pissed off so many people by challenging the status quo. and only a Jesus with deep compassion would love them enough to come back.
